The Customer

Zee Collections Ltd is a Birmingham-based online retailer selling unstitched Pakistani suits at zeecollectionsltd.co.uk. The site has been live for two years and had already worked with two previous SEO teams before this engagement began.

The Challenge

Despite two years online and two separate SEO teams, the website had never generated a single order. On top of that, the site was carrying an active malware infection that neither previous team had picked up or resolved.

The infection had injected hidden scripts into the site and generated roughly 1.8 million spam URLs using a “g” parameter, all of them redirecting back to the homepage. Google had crawled and indexed a large share of these junk URLs, burning crawl budget that should have gone to real product and category pages and putting the site’s trust signals at risk.

Before any keyword or content work could move the needle, the site needed to be cleaned, secured and stripped of everything Google had wrongly indexed.

The Solution

We treated this as a recovery project first and an SEO project second.

  • Security clean-up. Installed security plugins and worked directly with the client’s developer to locate and remove the hidden scripts responsible for the infection.
  • Spam URL removal. Applied 410 Gone rules alongside a robots.txt disallow for the g-parameter pattern, so Google would treat the 1.8 million junk URLs as permanently removed and drop them from the index with each fresh crawl.
  • Technical and on-page SEO. Once the site was clean, we moved into keyword mapping, category and brand page optimisation, and content built around the product searches that actually convert.
  • Google Merchant Center. Connected the site to Google Merchant Center so the product catalogue could appear in Google Shopping results, adding a free channel on top of standard organic search.
  • Facebook Marketplace. Listed the catalogue on Facebook Marketplace for further free reach, at no ad spend.
  • Pinterest. Built out a Pinterest presence for the brand, a platform it had no organic footprint on before this engagement.
  • Social media direction. The client already had a social media team in place, but the output was not working toward any SEO or sales goal. We gave that team a content direction so posts started supporting the same products and keywords the SEO plan was targeting.
  • Ongoing monitoring. Tracked the parameter URLs through Search Console to confirm the count was falling with every crawl rather than creeping back up.

None of this involved paid advertising. The client is not running Meta ads or Google Ads, so every order shown below came from organic and free channels only.

The Results

The impact showed up faster than a typical ecommerce SEO campaign, largely because the site had been actively held back rather than simply under-optimised.

Organic clicks rose to 643, up from 595 in the prior three months. Impressions grew to 36.7K, up from 33.9K. Average position improved to 18.4, up from 19, with the malware clean-up now freeing crawl budget for real pages instead of spam redirects.

Cleaning Up A Malware Hit Site And Turning It Into A Working Sales Channel

Two years live, two previous SEO teams, and not a single order. Two months into this engagement, Zee Collections has a clean, indexable site and a growing stream of real orders. The malware fix removed the ceiling that was capping the site’s visibility, and the SEO work underneath it is now doing what it was always meant to do.
